There is Always Something New to Learn

I have been shooting Canon cameras for years...and just upgraded to the 6D from a 50D. I almost didn't purchase the book because I figured the 6D couldn't be that different, right? But then I thought - it is a small investment relative to the price of the 6D, and maybe I would learn something new. And indeed I did! Doug Klostermann's book helped me understand every feature and menu item on my new camera...as well as enlightening me on many similar features on my 50D. I found the chapters on how the camera auto-focuses and the various exposure modes particularly helpful. I think I finally understand why I would sometimes get wildly different exposure results when I was re-framing compositions. The chapter on customizing the camera buttons has given me a whole new approach to my new camera. These were features that were available to me on my 50D, but I never knew how to use them to my advantage, or why I would want to change them. The book is well written, and easy to follow - Best read with your camera in your hands so you can try everything out. Klostermann is very good at explaining not only what the feature DOES, but WHY or WHAT SITUATION (or WHY NOT) you would use a particular feature.
The book was definitely was worth the purchase price and the time I invested in reading it. Thanks Doug! I am looking forward to putting it all into practice.

A must for every EOS 6D owner ....

I purchased the PDF version of this e-book from the authors website. I was (I thought) a fairly experienced EOS 60D user when I purchased my 6D camera and purchased the e-book to help me understand the different auto-focusing options on the 6D. However, I found myself learning a lot from this e-book that is applicable to the 60D and the 6D.

We all know that the manuals that come with the cameras are very difficult to read and do not really explain much at all. This book however is excellent, explaining everything you need to know about the camera as well as some photography basics as well. The book is well-written and illustrated throughout with great pictures of the camera, menu screenshots etc as well as example photographs as well.

I would highly recommend this book to every 6D owner.

In addition, if you haven't checked out the authors website, do yourself a favour and do so.

This is a tremendous tool for 6D owners

Mr. Klostermann's format goes so far beyond what one gets from an owner's manual. His book walks one through all the camera menus and options, and gives real-world applicability to the infinite possibilities this camera is capable of. He gives recommendations as to what he leaves his settings on, excellent explanations as to why, and variations one may wnat depending on useage. Can't recommend this highly enough!!!

Excellent Overview

This book is perfectly focused on the intention of setting Public Wi-Fi Hotspots. By this I mean that the book doesn't load you down with all the technical details of how wireless networks work, but instead dives right into the business/organizational benefits of running such a network as a hotspot. There is a very brief chapter at the end that gives an overview of RF or wireless signals (literally 14 pages) and this is perfect. Great job staying on focus.

The book presents the implementation of Wi-Fi Hotspots from start-to-finish covering these topics:

-Why Implement a Hotspot

-Simple Quick-Install Hotspots

-Adcvanced Hotspot technologies

-Marketing your hotspot

-Avoiding freeloaders who consume your bandwidth

-Common problems and resolutions

-Hotspot safety and security

Have not settled down to read the contents, but have flipped through the pasges. Very well presented, with tons of graphics - drawings, images, pictures etc make it look like an easy to read and digest book. If the contents are anything like the presentation, it'll simply A1 material.

Why Wi-Fi and How Wi-Fi

A few years back, we had a miniscule operation where we provided hosted billing software to small wireless ISP's and hotspot operators. That company gets mentioned in 2 or 3 places here, and that's why I bought this book. Thesedays I don't know who makes money off hotspots; the initial hoopla died out long ago and the market was littered with dead operations. The book does touch upon all the points you needed to know to set up a _small_ scale wifi service in hotels, cafes and so on; it's not suited for small ISPs and do not cover deployment and operational issues issues associated with a more demanding environment. There are two main sections (apart from the basic intro): one deals with setting up a hotspot, and the other deals with the post-deployment aspects; the latter part includes chapters such as, "Fending off freeloaders"! With a little patience you can get all this info straight from the net, but if you prefer the info in a packaged format, this book will be of use. The books comes with a CD; I never opened it, though.

Gripping Journey

This book was a gift given to me and signed by King Deng himself. When he gave it to me, I had only heard that he had lived through amazing things... I knew that he was considered one of the Lost Boys of Sudan, but that's all I knew. This weekend I sat down one morning to see what the book was all about the next thing I knew it was 5 or so hours later and I had devoured it whole. I cried and smiled and simply listened to an amazing tale that transports the reader to another world and never quite brings them back again despite the fact that the story ends in the U.S. It's a quick but gripping read and a perspective on the conflict in Sudan unlike any I've heard... Not heavy on politics but written from a heart for peace the book is lovely. Note it is a book of perspective and as such I don't think its merit can be determined by statistics and fact checking... it's all perspective and all heart. King Deng, thank you for the introduction. May peace and success be yours.

About the Author

Graham Morse enjoyed a business career in sales and marketing. At aged thirty, he taught himself to sail in a Mirror dinghy, and got the sailing bug. Several boats later, family sailing holidays took them across the English Channel, and then through the Bay of Biscay to South Brittany and Spain. His ocean racing experience included the 1989 Fastnet race.

He retired at sixty to spend more time sailing and exploring. In 2002 Graham and his wife, Janet, crossed the Atlantic and spent three years cruising the Caribbean. A few years later, he was struck down by a mysterious illness and vowed that if he recovered he would not miss his last opportunity to achieve a lifelong dream --to sail across the Pacific Ocean.

The experience of that voyage gave him the inspiration to achieve another ambition --to be a writer.

Graham Morse has four children and seven grandchildren and lives in the Cayman Islands.

It was a good read

Hello Potential Reader,
If you are like me, you dream of sailing/traveling to the South Pacific. So, of coarse, when I came across this book I had to read it. I found the book well written and easy to read. It basically describes a passage thru the South Pacific. I enjoyed getting to ride along and be apart of the adventure. I was a little worried however, in the first chapter, that due to the author's financial success in life his story would overly reflect a well-to-do's adventure. My worries were unfounded. The boat may be a little bigger but it was essentially the story of any skipper traveling the seas. Plus, if you are a fan of Tom you'll enjoy the bits about Suvarov.

Great read - I enjoyed the "escape"!

The detail on the culture and history of the islands and countries of the South Pacific is excellent. What comes out in spades is a warmth for those people and cultures that the author meets on his travels. I am a sailor, but with a busy family life, and wife and I buried in careers - we both enjoyed the escape that the book provides. It inspired us both that one day we might actually live this dream! ...A great read for a cold winter's night!

Great read for sailor, adventurer, armchair traveler or historian alike. Having the courage and ambition to do what many of us only talk about in life, and relating their experiences in an such an engaging way make this an easy and enlightening read. I very much enjoyed this book.

About the Author
Chris Juzwiak holds an MA in Comparative Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles, and is ABD. He has taught college-level literature and composition for twenty-three years and is currently chair of the Developmental Composition Program at Glendale Community College. Under the auspices of grants from the Carnegie and Hewlett Foundations and the California Basic Skills Initiative, Chris has pioneered new pedagogical approaches to development composition instruction. He is coauthor of “Pedagogies of Visibility: The Full E-mersion and Beyond,” an article in the spring 2009 edition of New Directions for Community Colleges. In addition, Chris has presented his work at ISSOTL, the League for Innovation, ECCTYC, Strengthening Student Success, the California State Academic Senate, and the Carnegie and Hewlett Foundations. At Glendale College, he has received the John Craven Award for innovative composition instruction and in 2010, the Distinguished Faculty Award. His latest project, IMPACT (Incremental-Motivational Pedagogy, Assessment-Cycles Training), is a distillation of ten years of pedagogical research and innovation, and is now used in all the developmental composition classes at his college.

Misleading Description--Wrong Book

This is the Instructors Annotated Edition. There should be a wide white stripe running across the top of the book pictured in the advertisement. Note that it shows none. Also note that no where in the description does it tell you it's the Instructors Edition, and as such, it includes all the answers! It should be made known by the seller--in LARGE LETTERS! To me, this is false advertising. Amazon should NOT allow this company to do business here. I don't know if they are even aware of it, but they will be made aware of it by me. My friend also ordered the same book & received the useless Instructors Edition...just as I did. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BOOK!!!
