Racist Literature in Nursing

Don't let the cover fool you, this book is racist! Most African-Americans do not speak Vernacular English, also known as Ebonics. Maybe the few the author has encountered in her life do, but I bet they'd catch all her typos in this literature. Her statement is inaccurate and stereotyped. In case you are confused, there isn't a language line at the hospital for the national language of "African Americans". I couldn't help but notice that her talk on the LGBT community came from a victimized point of view, referring to senior "members" as poor because of job discrimination. But no such mention of that towards the minority "members" who live through discrimination from birth to death, with no choice to accept or deny their "membership" into this group. I also noticed that in educating the reader of typical characteristics of racial groups, there wasn't a section dedicated to the whites that took the land from the American Indians and brought these Ebonic speaking Africans over to the great USA by force and made them slaves. Talk about discrimination! So my multiracial mind has no choice but to think very lowly of this author. I hope she comes to the light and sees the truth behind her own biases. I will be throwing this paper weight in the trash at the end of the semester.
