Be It Remembered that on the twenty-first day of July, in the fortieth year of the independence of the United States of America, Henry Wheaton of said district, hath deposited in this office the title of a book, the right whereof he claims as proprietor, in the words and figures following, to wit:
"A Digest of the Law of Maritime Captures and Prizes." By Henry Wheaton, Counsellor at Law and Advocate.
In conformity to the Act of the Congress of the United States, entitled "An Act for the encouragement of Learning, by securing the copies of Maps, Charts, and Books to the authors and proprietors of such copies, during the time therein mentioned. And also to An Act, entitled" An Act supplementary to An Act, entitled An Act for the encouragement of learning, by securing the copies of maps, Charts, and books to the authors and proprietors of such copies, during the times therein mentioned, and extending the benefits thereof to the arts of designing, engraving, and etching historical and other prints.

Henry Wheaton was one of America's greatest nineteenth century legal scholars.In this volume, he explains in simple, clear language the principles of the law of maritime captures. This book was of greatest value in an era when. privateers were in common use in wartime. Nevertheless, the work retains value for historical questions as well as recurring problems such as piracy and blockade. Unfortunately, neither the word search nor the page search features work satisfactorily in the Kindle version.
