Not for the serious student

If you are serious in your exploration of Islam, this book will not be very useful. Although the idea of giving an explanation of the religious symbols found in islamic art and other religious manifestations is quite good, the author has not bothered to state such basic things as her sources or even a simple bibliography. Of course, there are no notes either. It is impossible to go on reading from here, and you will never learn from where did the author gather her knowledge. There is another important flaw: the strong bias in favour of Islam sometimes is so apologetic as to read as a justification, and I really don't think the religion of Islam has anything to apologize for (although I cannot say the same of some muslims), so I find this quite unnecessary and cumbersome.

In spite of all this, my review is a three stars because the book does, at least, give the names and description of many important artistic symbols, and it also gives the popular or folk (I think this is so, since the sources are not quoted) meanings attached to them.

the icing on the cake!

not having a sweet-tooth myself, i found ms. liftin's ability to consume confectionary treats absolutely stunning. her ability to write about them is even better. this novel is filled with vignettes, each connected to a different type of candy, and somehow ms.liftin makes this gimmick actually work. several of the chapters had me giggling out loud--particularly when she asks why anyone would ever dip south of mentos on her mint-o-meter. she captures the bitterness of adolescence, the sourness of spoiled relationships and the spice of sheer pleasure beautifully, causing the myriad candies about which she writes to easily morph into metaphors for her life. a clever, intelligent and--yes--sweet read.

This book is a yummy delight!

A humorous yet at times poignant account of one woman's life, loves, and confectionary favorites, from her childhood addiction to a homemade sugar paste, to junior mints, to Petite Fruits, Jelly Fruit Wedges, and frosting eaten straight from the can (I thought I was the only one who did that!) A factual account that is as entertaining as any fiction story i have come across. I recommend it highly. A real sweetie of a book!

Great even when not that interested in the Blues

Let me start off by saying that pretty much anything that Richard writes I will like. He is a blogger for the Rochester newspaper where I live, I've read 'Learning to Walk' by him and I just like his writing style. This book is another example of how much I enjoy whatever he writes. I too live in Corn Hill, where Son lived for a period of his life, I've lived here for 22 years and never knew a thing about Son, or him living here. Now I do. While his music is not something I am drawn to, I appreciated reading about his live and what shaped his music. I also like the story of Richard meeting Son and how his music related to his own life.

For me, it was a brief but intriguing literary work that shared much in common with novels where it is the "searcher" who is eventually revealed in the search. A wonderful read in which you are caught up in the intersections between a city that loves music, a man who breathes it and the enigma of Son House.

I really enjoyed this short read. Never knew anything about Son and I have lived in Rochester all my life. Rich's last book, " Learning to Walk" was excellent also. I am waiting for Book 2 of the Trilogy. Rich has a wonderful way with words.

Lovely, upbeat romance!

We have Elspeth, a beautiful, fiercely independent young woman and Leo, her handsome, arrogant, maddening neighbor. They find themselves inexplicably drawn to one another against the gorgeous, romantic backdrop of rural France. But their attraction and rising passion isn’t a simple one. Both are hiding their own set of secrets that you must discover for yourself. Amidst the deceit and mill restoration, there is plenty of heat and humor. I rarely read a book more than once, but I am looking forward to savoring this one again.

Wonderful! Fantastic! A beautiful story that I loved from the opening chapter, a ruin needing restoration and a feisty young lady who's going to 'do it by myself'. Of course we have a super hero who melts your heart with his accent, a wicked lady, and a cliff hanger that will set your mind and heart racing. I can't praise this versatile Author enough. The writing style of A Fallen Fortune is that of an experienced and accomplished wordsmith who creates her characters with aplomb and embroiders her landscapes in colours that are jewel like to your imagination. I've read it twice now and it's a keeper, warms your heart and soothes the soul...

Finally, a focused academic systems theory overview text for family therapy survey courses!

While a plethora of well-written family systems therapy publications exists, finding an engaging text that explicates essential family therapy concepts in less than 150 pages is no easy feat. Dr. Smith-Acuna has done a fabulous job of presenting an overview of the essential modern and postmodern family therapy concepts in a coherent and cohesive fashion.

Excellent text

I practice as a family therapist and teach classes in family counseling. This is THE text I require for the class. This is an excellent introduction to the varieties of systems theory and is very well done for its breadth. And, if you've never read a thing about systems theory, you should and you should begin with this book.

Eye Opening

I was amazed at the level of detail. It's heavily documented, which is refreshing in an alternative medicine book. In fact, if what Dr. Douglass says is true (and I'm pretty confident it is), then the mainstream medical establishment has a lot of explaining to do about why they have rejected and ignored light-based therapies that have produced excellent, well-documented clinical or double-blind results over the course of a century.
He also does an excellent job in not overselling his claims. He pulls no punches about when and where the therapy failed to work. When it does work, he also doesn't hold back in his enthusiasm. Some might be put off by this last fact, but I think his presentation is well-balanced, overall.
My only criticism is that, while most documentation is excellent, I wish the author had paid a bit more attention to completing all of his references. I have a second edition copy, which includes a reference on page 232 to something called, _AIDS - The End of Civilization_, Chapter 6. Unfortunately, there are no other descriptions of that book that I could find, such as who wrote or published it. I learned later that it was another book by the same author, but that fact should have been included in the reference.)
Another example of an inaccurate reference is on page 236, where he mentions a blue light therapy performed on a little girl in Chapter 14. Unfortunately, Chapter 14 is about a doctor with AIDS and how he has dealt with this personal crisis. It has no reference to either blue light therapy or the little girl.
Such mistakes aside, the overall value of the book is tremendous. I recommend it heartily to anyone whose mind isn't closed like a steel trap.
I also recommend another book by the author called Hydrogen Peroxide, Medical Miracle. The two books should really be considered companions of each other.

Factual history and indications of this excellent therapy

Dr. Douglass is a leading American expert on Photoluminescence (aka Blood Irradiation, Biophotonic Therapy, etc.). In this book he provides a great deal of very useful original source material from the early American clinical trials of this formidable therapy. He has travelled to Russia to consult with physicians there and includes some material from recent Russian sources as well. The book is written in an engaging style, with many insights into topics related to this therapeutic use of the chemiluminescent property of human blood cells. The abundant evidence from this book makes it clear that mainstream medicine has allowed an excellent therapy to slip through the cracks. Into the Light

DR. Campbell's book "into the Light" is fantabulous. On a scale of 1 to 5, it is a 20. It is a must read if you believe in alternative medicine. It is sad that we can't get the FDA to approve of this life-saving treatment. This treatment saved my mother's life when conventional medicine put her in the hospital 4 times within one month.

In addition, this treatment saved my wife's life when she came down with Valley Fever. It also saved me from having heart surgery for an irregular heart beat. I am so grateful that I will not need that expensive and possibly fatal surgery. Anyone that says the treatments that Dr. Campbell recommends do not work has not really done any research on UVBI or H202 treatments.

When all else fails, then try a UVBI & H202 treatment as stated by Dr. Campbell.

Its about preparing your troops each and every day, leading by example, and trying to keep everyone safe. Great reading and a good book.
